What an amazing weekend for the club. So many teams out there playing great football. It was pretty chilly at my 9am match but we’ve got some great pics from games.
We’re looking for more volunteers who are interested in becoming coaches. You wouldn’t believe how many young people are looking for teams to play in but most of our teams are full up! It’s a nice problem to have but we want to enable more young people to play the game they love. If you’re interested in becoming a coach please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Reminder – in accordance with FA rules we do not publish the results of teams participating in U7 to U11 games. We celebrate effort, teamwork and participation in the younger teams.
Ambers played a strong and physical Wixhams team. Ambers started the first quarter slow and most of it was in our half but we defended well and Mayzie made some great saves. 2nd quarter we grew into the game more and had a bit more possession and pushed them back into their own half. 3rd quarter we showed more confidence and started passing the ball a lot better and had a lot more shots testing their keeper on numerous occasions through Freya, Iyla and Grace.
3rd quarter Mayzie made some good saves again and we went close through Macy, Scarlott and Natasha with their keeper making some great saves. Neither team could break the deadlock. We managed to win on penalties with Arriana and Macy scoring and Mayzie pulling off a superb save.
Lightning (U9) sponsored by Top Diner
MK City Lightning U9 travelled to Mursley for a MKDDL Holland encounter.
Lightning kicked off in the bright sunshine and started really well on a pitch that was great for passing, time after time during the opening half they swarmed around the Mursley goal but some great defending and goalkeeping kept the scores close.
Eventually Lightning grabbled the goals the performance deserved with Player of the match Taylor grabbing two, Harrison, Barney, Mason and birthday boy James each grabbing one.
Lightning put in a proper performance from the first whistle to the last and put on a great display for the watching support.
The match finished with a loud Happy Birthday song sung to captain for the day James.
Thanks to Mursley for being perfect hosts, and also to the referee who had a great game, which was played in the right spirit.
Crystals (U18) sponsored by J Cresswell Landscaping
U18 Crystals hosted EB Lions in a Division 2 match on a lovely morning!
Starting with only 10 players, Crystals dominated the first half, went one up after 10 mins through Hermione Hilton, but didn’t capitalise on their chances and against the run of play, EB Lions equalised just before half time with a fine individual goal. This seemed to dent Crystals confidence, and EB Lions were much better in the second half and went 4-1 up in a 15 minute blitz.
Crystals regained composure and dominated again the last 20 mins, but could only pull one back through Hermione again. It was a game there for winning but slipped away, Kiera was POTM.
Jades (U10) sponsored by TCS
The MK City Girls were playing for the first time against each other in a plate match, Jades started the game really well and the girls working really hard work each other just like every week. Jades create many chances but some good saves from Topaz keeper.
At times they girls made some good passes, shooting and moving to space really well, I could see that the girls to do what we did in trainings sessions. Super proud of all the girls in Jades team.
Player of the match: Hannah – amazing defending throughout the whole game.
Topaz (U10) sponsored by MK Loftboarding and CC Landscape
MK Topaz v MK Jade’s both teams gave it all with ending in penalties. Whilst Jades gave it a good fight, the Topaz family just kept passing and defending their side. Ava Grace got players match and Charis who is a new player for Topaz came out top and got parents player. The girls fought hard and it was a brilliant game.
Jaspers (U9) sponsored by Brioche Pasquier
Jaspers played their first league game against Shefford. The girls all did brilliant and they worked together to create a few good chances of goals. So proud of all the girls.
Gracie got man of the match and Allegra got Parents player.
Wolves (U9) sponsored by ANV Measurements
Wolves produced a great display away at Tingewick on a cold and frosty morning. In a competitive game the boys worked their socks off and were fully committed.
The boys passed the ball well and Dries, Flynn, Albie and Eden were all on the scoresheet.
Man of the Match today was Dries who worked tirelessly down the right and was a constant threat going forward as well as tracking back to help defend.
Thanks to Tingewick for an enjoyable morning’s football.
Pearls (U8) sponsored by Mini Monsters
The Pearls were on the road today for a game against their most local of opponents, Woburn and Wavendon.
Before kickoff the two teams lined up together in support of kicking homophobia out of football, with a special rainbow ball.
The game started well for the Pearls as the dominated the play winning their individual battles. With a sharp cross finding the feet of Holly in the box, who pounced on the chance to score.
Woburn fought back with fast counter attacking play, but Crystal in goal was having an excellent game. Several goals by Woburn followed however which Crystal could do little about.
In the last quarter Miami taking the ball from the top of her own penalty area, dribbled passed everyone of the Woburn team to score an excellent goal.
The scoreline in the end didn’t matter, these were two very equally match sides who had lots of fun. Crystal played so well today, Woburn awarded her their player of the match. Rosie took our player of the match for her dogged determination in getting back in defence. On to Bedford next week!
Sapphires (U12) sponsored by BQI Protection
Biggleswade 0 – 2 Mk City Sapphires
Sapphires reached the semi final of the League Plate with a 2-0 win away at Biggleswade.
Sapphires got off to a great start Ava Martuccio scoring in the 1st minute after Grace McCormack played it into her. The rest of the half was a scrappy affair with both teams creating the odd half chance.
Second half Sapphires were camped in the Biggleswade half, but only managed to add one more goal. It came from Shania Ismail and it was a great goal, pretty much the whole team were involved moving the ball from one side of the pitch to the other, ending with Maisie Burchmore laying it into Shania who curled it into the right hand corner of the goal.
Tough conditions today, but another really good battling display from the girls against a Biggleswade side who made it a difficult game.
Rubys (U14) sponsored by Matrix
Mk City Ruby’s 5-2 Wargrave Women, U14 County Cup Semi Final
Rubys got off to a pretty good start and were 1-0 (Sian Morris) within 10 minutes. The girls fought for every ball making sure they kept their position and supported each other. Soon they were 2-0 up after an own goal. The rest of the first half was pretty even both teams having opportunities but not able to convert. The 2nd half started well for the Ruby’s, but unfortunately a miscommunication let Wargrave in and the game was 2-1.
The Ruby’s settled down and with encouragement from coaches, they were soon 3-1 (Skye) up and then came a fantastic goal 4-1 from Isobel who scored from the corner spot. Wargrave tried their best to come back into it, but with the midfield partnership of Millie and Sienna, they couldn’t find the ball through. The Ruby’s team didn’t settle and continued to battle for possession. Wargrave then had a period of the game where they kept the Rubys in their own half and were rewarded with another goal 4-2. With less than 10 minutes to go the Ruby’s were awarded a free kick, was which scored by Isobel and was an amazing strike 5-2.
The girls did themselves proud and worked really hard as a team from the 1st minute to the last and today was their best performance of the season. Isobel was player of the match. Also a mention for Michelle the goalkeeper who had a very good game and made some brilliant saves and was strong in some challenges from Wargrave.
Lions (U16) sponsored by Makewell
U16 lions won 3-0 this weekend. Two first half goals from Trivon that saw us go into half time with the lead. Performance could have been better first half but we change that an came out slot better second half deserved the win. Benji scored the 3rd from a penalty.
Well done Lions
Ladies sponsored by Enterprise Skip Hire
A good crowd turned out today despite the wind and cold, and they were treated to some great football.
Ladies today were involved in another goal fest winning 9-1 with our striker in form Cara scoring 6 of them but also our very own U14’s manager Lauryn Keep-Worrell scoring her first goal for the club in 13 years!
Great team effort. #upthecity!
