WEEKEND ROUNDUP – 29/30 January 2022

WEEKEND ROUNDUP – 29/30 January 2022
January 30, 2022 by Stuart Ridout

We’re looking for more volunteers who are interested in becoming coaches. You wouldn’t believe how many young people are looking for teams to play in but most of our teams are full up! It’s a nice problem to have but we want to enable more young people to play the game they love. If you’re interested in becoming a coach please email info@mkcityfc.co.uk

Reminder – in accordance with FA rules we do not publish the results of teams participating in U7 to U11 games. We celebrate effort, teamwork and participation in the younger teams.

TIGERS (U7) SPONSORED BY DH CONSTRUCTION

A tough match this week for the Tigers at home against Olney Town Colts U7. There was an early lead and some promising goals from the Tigers but Olney Town had a great team who created some great opportunities on the pitch.

Wolves (U9) sponsored by ANV Measurement Systems

MK City Wolves played their first ever game today against a good Cranfield Colts team. Despite this being our first outing as a team and some of the boy’s first ever football match they acquitted themselves brilliantly, starting brightly and positively, passing the ball and putting in great effort all over the pitch.

Dries won and scored a penalty and all the boys were more than happy to be out on the pitch enjoying their football and can’t wait to go again next weekend.

The match was played in a great spirit and the teams were well matched allowing a fine end to end match.

Man of the Match was Riley who produced an excellent defensive performance both in defence and in midfield.
Referee Kian was superb, letting the game flow, and helping new players who are still learning aspects of the game.

PEARLS (U8) SPONSORED BY MINI MONSTERS

Despite losing 3 players to illness, The Pearls once again dominated the play in a home game, this time against Woburn. Miami looking to add to her seasons tally was firing shots for fun at the Woburn goal today, rattling the frame of the goal several times. The inevitable finally happened with Miami dribbling through three Woburn players to slot it in the bottom corner.

Woburn responded and forced an excellent diving save by Crystal, who also showed great confidence in coming off her line to gather up the loose through balls throughout. Miami dribbling down the left side put a cross in for Holly who booted in with a ferocious strike at close range to double the scoreline.

Player of the match however was reserved for Vega who provided a dominant defensive display. Then the Pearls centre back shocked everyone dribbling from her own area, pass and through three Woburn players, not once but three times, turning defence into attack.

JADES (U10) SPONSORED BY TCS

MK City Jades played really well against Tattenhoe today. The girls dominated the game, having a lot of possession and created a lot of chances. They’re keep improving each week and I’m really proud of all them. The Tattenhoe GK mad some good saves and the girls were unlucky to score.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH:  Scarlett – amazing dribbling and passing through out the game.

Jaguars (U12)

It was a windy Saturday that saw the Jaguars line up against Shenley Hawks for their home league tie after a 3-3 draw away, earlier in the season.

Both teams started well but Jaguars took the lead on 11 minutes. Some creative counter-attacking saw Charlie slot a neat pass through to Jeremy who made sure of the finish, 1-0 Jaguars. Shenley hit back less than 3 minutes later with a well worked goal, 1-1. Less than 60 seconds later and it was Jaguars who scored again, Charlie pounced on a clearance and slotted home, 2-1 Jaguars. There was no doubt that more goals were coming and it was Shenley who scored again 5 minutes later, 2-2. With only minutes to go in the first half, Shenley picked up a loose ball in midfield and powered forward. From a couple of yards outside the box a looping shot just dipped under the bar, 3-2 to Shenley and the half-time whistle blows.

The 2nd half was lively with both sides creating an abundance of chances. We saw end-2-end football with some great passing and creative counter-attacking but neither side could break the deadlock. With both sides tiring towards the end of the match it was Shenley who had made the most of their chances and walked out winners at 3-2.

Performances of the match went to Cameron who donned his GK gloves for only the 2nd time this season and put in a great display. The other performance of the match went to Jack for his continued pressing play, positive attitude and creativity up front.

Well done to Shenley who played some great football – we wish you all the best for the rest of the season.

SAPPHIRES (U12) SPONSORED BY BQI PROTECTION

Sapphires played Tattenhoe. Ava Martuccio opened the scoring for Sapphires, hitting a great strike from the edge of box. Rachel Mackie then scored with a left foot effort to make it 2-0. Ava then hit the post but Grace McCormack followed up to tap in. 3-0 at half time.

Second half Sapphires added a 4th, Grace forced a save from the Tattenhoe keeper and managed to finish the rebound, 4-0 final score.

Tattenhoe made Sapphires work hard for the result today, but the girls were up to the test again.
