WEEKEND ROUNDUP – 2/3 OCTOBER 2021

WEEKEND ROUNDUP – 2/3 OCTOBER 2021
October 2, 2021 by Stuart Ridout

This was the weekend where we felt that summer had gone! Those rainclouds were heavy and the spectators’ coats were thick! Thanks to all parents, coaches, managers, players and referees for getting out there this week!

Reminder – in accordance with FA rules we do not publish the results of teams participating in U7 to U11 games. We celebrate effort, teamwork and participation in the younger teams.

This week we say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Alfie from our Lightning U9 team who has been offered a 2021/22 contract with the Northampton Town Academy Development squad! Well done!

MK City Lightning (U9) travelled to Leighton Buzzard to face off against Woodside Wanderers.

In a thrilling match two very evenly matched teams gave everything for the whole 50 minutes.

Man of the match went to Liam who gave a brilliant display on the left wing and also scored from a corner for the second game running.

Saints (U8) were fantastic in their friendly against Linslade Galaxy. It was a brilliant game with goals from Daniel, Rishaan & Jude.

Lots of good passes and superb defending throughout the game. With every passing game, the team is coming well together as a unit.

A great game with a really good effort from everyone!

Panthers (U16) were away this morning at Middleton Cheney FC which was a 50 minute drive.

The Panthers made sure the journey was worthwhile with a brilliant performance and a cracking goal from Kris which secured another 3 points for the Panthers.

The performance was brilliant from start to finish throughout the squad but Luke who has come along so well deserved man of the match.

Keep up the good work we go again next week Panthers🔥

Jets (U11) battled against the weather as they played Wootton today. Our defence this week was much stronger than last week but we just could not penetrate a good defence on their side. Terrible weather for our match and a rare occasion of no goals for us.

Girl of the match was Freya who defended really well and followed all instructions given.

Tiger’s Eye (U14) welcomed Luton Celtic Clovers this morning. With three of our key players out through illness and injury the rest of the team knew they had to step up.

Teagan played superbly all game and was rewarded with a first half goal when she lobbed the keeper from 25 yards.
Ever reliable Amelie scored the second, a brilliant solo goal, picking the ball up on the half way line, taking it all the way down the wing and slotting it past the keeper. City were strong up front and very unlucky not to grab the win.

Parents player of the match Teagan
Managers player of the match Kathlyn
Oppositions player of the match Lauren

Jades (U10) had a hard game with playing against Deanshanger Colts. This was the first cup game for the girls and all the girls tried their hardest, second half was a lot better with City only letting one girl in.

Although it was a cold and rainy game the girls played with pride wearing the MK City badge!

Magpies (U14) won away 0-9 against Harrold & Carlton! It was an action packed game with six goals in the first half … first goal scored in the 80th second!

Lions (U16) played at home today against Woburn and Wavendon Whirlwinds with a 1-1 draw. Goal scorer Chris Nanaakosah, assisted by Lewis Galbraith. It was a good game 👍

Rubys (U14) had a great 2-5 away win!

Pearls (U8) are improving week 9n week with a great pass and move style up the pitch. Great goal by Miami today, who should have got a hatrick if it weren’t for the post! Congratulations to Amelia how earned her player of the match award for her forward passing and assertive tackling, and assist.

Diamonds (U15) won 2-1 away against Kettering. We controlled the whole game and should have scored more but happy to get our second win of the season. Well done to Keira for her two goals.

Tigers (U7) had an action packed friendly at home today. Plenty of goals scored on both sides with a fantastic effort by the team. Congratulations to Rafi for being man of the match. Thanks to Ovidiu for refereeing!

Sapphires (U12) got their first win of the season with a very impressive 9-2 away win against an unbeaten Leighton side. Sapphires started very well and scored two early goals from Tilly Allen and Emily Thompson (player of the game), these were added to by Ava Martuccio and hat tricks from Shania Ismail and Grace McCormack. Fantastic performance from all the girls!

Crystals (U18) travelled away to a good side in Wing, with only 10 players due to lots of sickness and absentees.

Crystals were on top in the first half, but went in 1-1 at the break with a goal from Hope Elverson, assisted by Hermione Hilton and Lily-May Fitzpatrick. In the second, Crystals lost another player, so down to 9, whereas Wing kept 11 players on the pitch and had plenty of subs, and eventually ran out 6-1 winners.

It was a great effort nevertheless from our girls, who were up against it from the start.

Hawks (U18) had another grading game in the Beds Saturday league today. We were playing Kempston who won Division 1 last year. We had players missing and only took 11 to the match.

Our keeper is recovering after he broke his tibia in training during the summer so we’re slightly unsettled currently with outfield players playing between the sticks.

We fought hard and had chances throughout but went into half time 2-0 down. We weren’t clinical enough and even when winning our battles, they seemed to end up with the ball. But overall, we held our own.

We regrouped and went hard into the second half. The lads kept fighting against a really strong team. They got a penalty and converted this which put us down to 3-0. The team pulled together and played well for fifteen minutes although we couldn’t break them.

They got a corner and a lovey looping header saw us go down to 4-0. We deserved more out the game. We switched goalkeeper with 10 minutes left, who made some amazing saves. Penalty to us which was dispatched beautifully 4-1. Then with a corner in the last minute a great header saw us bring the game to 4-2.

It should have been closer and with a few subs it would have been. So for a division 3 team last year playing against the best of the best our lads did good.

Hawks(U16) beat Tattenhoe u16 FC 5-2 this morning in the county Cup. Awesome play coming back from 0-1 in the first half 👏🙌😀

Mens team have moved up to second in the league after a great 3-1 win against Scots Reserves!

Diamonds (U15) won 2-1 away against Kettering. They controlled the whole game and deserved to score more but we’re happy to get our second win of the season. Two goals for Keira … Well done!

Jaguars (U12) lost 3-5 in the County Cup today but we took the lead three times during the game and just lost our way in the last 10 minutes. The lads were absolutely exhausted at the end but they had given it everything and they played a great game.

Not a bad result for only their fifth competitive game since we set up the team. Their first win is just around the corner!!!! ⚽

We also received our brand new goalkeeper gloves from GoalkeeperWarz presented by Simon Galbraith.

Eagles had a great 3-0 win which is a solid start to the season!

Ladies got their first win of the season with a fantastic 5-1 win
