Storm Eunice hit us hard this weekend so unfortunately many matches were cancelled due to the wind or waterlogged pitches. To those of you who were still out there … BRAVO! 👏
We’re looking for more volunteers who are interested in becoming coaches. You wouldn’t believe how many young people are looking for teams to play in but most of our teams are full up! It’s a nice problem to have but we want to enable more young people to play the game they love. If you’re interested in becoming a coach please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Reminder – in accordance with FA rules we do not publish the results of teams participating in U7 to U11 games. We celebrate effort, teamwork and participation in the younger teams.
JADES (U10) SPONSORED BY TCS
MK City travelled to Flitwick Eagles in a 9:30 KO this morning. The team was missing 2 players including our goalkeeper. Some of the girls didn’t want to go in goal but unfortunately I had to make a decision and put someone in goal. Big shout to Ava, Emma and Rosie for going in goal. They all did amazing!
MK City started the game really well and created lots of chances but unable to convert them. The girls tried to pass the ball and get up the pitch but the weather mad it challenging and they seem to over hit most passes. This didn’t stop the girls for working hard on and off the ball and super proud of all the girls today.
Player of the match: Martha was player of the match today, excellent performance from her. Playing 2 quarters in defence and she did an amazing job along side Hannah.
Lightning (U9) sponsored by Top Diner
MK City Lightning travelled to MK United for a MKDDL Holland encounter.
Firstly, thanks to MK United for getting the game on just a few hours after storm Eunice, the pitch held up well, but at the the end of the match was very boggy, the heavy pitch meant a lot of effort was required from both sets of players from both teams.
Lightning started strongly and managed to get the lead through Harrison, who finished neatly from the edge of the box, the game then ebbed and flowed from goalmoutth to goalmouth, but both teams were finding it hard to get the shots away, which is tribute to the strength of the defences.
Second half saw Lightning dominating possesion, while also tracking back to make multiple tackles, as we entered the last minute MK United had a great shot on target, which looked for all the world like it was heading in, but the Lightning and Northampton Town keeper somehow dived full stretch to his bottom left to secure the ball with a fine save.
Man of the match went to Harry, who was so effective in a defensive midfiled role, well done Harry
Well done Lightning, a superb performance and well done to MK United for taking part in a really competitive match
Lions (U16) sponsored by Makewell
Lions won 3-0 today against a very good Walton side, the lions started off very well with high pressing an was dominating then Trivon who is in fine form at the moment slotted home to make it 1-0. As we continued to pressure them, got a corner and Jenson played in a beautiful ball in for Chris the head in, very good goal 2-0
Second half we let them have the ball and they looked dangerous and, on another day, they could have put away a couple of their chances. With about 15 mins left Jenson picked up the ball from midfield dribbled past 3 defenders an slotted home a beautiful curling shot in the top corner.
Good performance overall from the lads as we look to progress more and more up the league table
Full time Walton 0- MK City lions 3
Sapphires (U12) sponsored by BQI Protection
Sapphires continued their winning run in 2022 after a tough 2-1 away win at Stony Stratford.
Sapphires we’re on top in the first half with Grace Buckingham, Shania Ismail and Arabella Mantle all going close but couldn’t find the finishing touch, the half ending 0-0.
The second half was a bit more end to end, Sapphires took the lead after Shania won the ball high up the pitch and crossed from the right for Grace McCormack to control on the penalty spot and finish neatly. Stony didn’t give up and their hard work paid off with an equaliser with about 15 minutes to go. Sapphires weren’t finished either though and with not long to go, Grace returned the favour playing in player of the game Shania, who ran onto the ball and fired into the roof of the net.
Fantastic battling display from the girls in very tough conditions and being without our regular keeper Charlotte (Ava Martuccio and Maisie Burchmore doing a half each and did a great job).
Wolves (U9) sponsored by ANV Measurement Systems
Wolves battled hard in less than ideal conditions on an away trip to North Marston & Granborough. The boys played the great passing game we’ve become accustomed to and Eden got Wolves goal through an excellent shot from outside of the box.
Both teams had chances and it was end to end stuff from the outset. All the players were covered in mud and well and truly knackered by the end but were still smiling.
Man of the Match, as voted by the opposition coaches, was debutant Jensen who pressed the defence in his centre forward role and was a constant threat on the break.
