WEEKEND ROUNDUP – 15/16 January 2022

WEEKEND ROUNDUP – 15/16 January 2022
January 16, 2022 by Stuart Ridout

🥶🥶🥶 Brrrr! It was cold out there this weekend! ⚽⚽⚽ We’ve seen a few matches cancelled due to frozen pitches or Coronavirus in the opposing team. Well done to those teams who were able to play this weekend!

A huge congratulations goes out to Ruby’s (U14) who have made it through to the semi finals of the county cup!

We’re looking for more volunteers who are interested in becoming coaches. You wouldn’t believe how many young people are looking for teams to play in but most of our teams are full up! It’s a nice problem to have but we want to enable more young people to play the game they love. If you’re interested in becoming a coach please email info@mkcityfc.co.uk

Reminder – in accordance with FA rules we do not publish the results of teams participating in U7 to U11 games. We celebrate effort, teamwork and participation in the younger teams.

PEARLS (U8) SPONSORED BY MINI MONSTERS

Another tough muddy day away for the Pearls against a very strong Luton Town team.

Some absolutely fabulous assertive tackling and battling from Sophie, Holly and Vega at the back, kept Luton away from our goal as much as possible. It just didn’t work out for the Pearls upfront as the ball became stuck in the mud. Denying the Pearls their usual passing play. A goal by Miami made sure we took something from the game.

Performance of the match went to Amelia whose non-stop gritty battle in the midfield was very praise worthy.

Lots of lessons learnt in how to play on this kind of pitch and all credit to Luton Town for some outstanding individual performances.

HAWKS (U16) SPONSORED BY ARO INSTALLATIONS

U16 Hawks beat Towcester U16 Foxes 4-0 this morning. They got 4 goals in the 2nd half which was not surprising as we dominated the 1st half completely.

A hat trick from Keanan and 1 goal from Taye.

Man of the match was the captain Abel 👏. Well done Hawks.

JETS (U11) SPONSORED BY WAC AGENCY

Unfortunately we didn’t have a very good performance today by Jets against Newport Pagnell Swans. The only goal for Jets was from Martha with an assist by Skylah.

Aiva was our stand out player and got girl of the match.

CRYSTALS (U18) SPONSORED BY J CRESSWELL LANDSCAPING

Our U18 Crystals travelled away for a tricky match at Woburn for a 9.30 kick off in the freezing fog! Crystals took a while to get going and fell a goal behind on 20 mins from a long range effort.

Crystals did equalise with the goal of the game, Madi Sharp smashing a first time volley home from a long cross. Woburn were then awarded a controversial penalty and went 2-1 ahead. Crystals were upset by this and were 4-1 down at the break, still arguing about the decision!

They cleared their heads at half time and although conceding a sloppy fifth just inside the second half, the rest of the half was all Crystals. Pulled one back through Hermione Hilton, hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions and failed to convert some one on one’s.

Had Crystals started better, and had a bit more luck the result would have been much different, but it ended Woburn 5-2 Crystals.

JAGUARS (U12)

This week, it was our turn to welcome Yardley Youth to Derwent on a frosty, foggy morning. The cold did nothing to stop a determined Yardley team from taking the lead early on and the first half continued in much the same way. With the Jaguars unable to impose themselves on the game we found ourselves 5-0 down at half-time.

It was a different story in the second half however! The Jaguars had stepped up a gear and were determined to get more control of the match. With some much-improved passing and movement they managed to score 5 minutes in, Haydon drilling a shot past the Yardley goalkeeper. The second half continued to be a real battle as both sides looked to score more goals. Both teams missed a number of chances with Yardley also hitting the woodwork. Riley and Jeremy were electric on the wings for the Jaguars and they looked a real danger going forward.

Cherub, Haydon and Lewis were linking up well to create yet more chances but the ball just didn’t seem to want to hit the back of the net. Alfie was outstanding in goal for the Jaguars and managed to pull off some outstanding saves to keep the team in the game. It was Yardley’s good all-round team play that paid off as they managed to score a few more and the match finished 8-1. We wish Yardley all the best for the rest of the season – they have a great squad and work really hard for each other.

Although the Jaguars started slowly, they improved vastly over the course of the match. The team never stopped running and they gave Yardley a real challenge in the second half. We continue with the season and the search for our first win!

RUBYS (U14) SPONSORED BY MATRIX

FT 2-2 PEN 4-2

A well fought county cup quarter final match for the Rubys.  From the start the girls gave it everything to make sure they put themselves in a good position.  After going up 1-0 (Skye) just before half time it was evenly matched at 1-1 due to a penalty (from our side we thought it was harsh, but when the ball jumps up in the box a hits a defenders hands it’s going to be given).

The 2nd half we continued to battle, pretty much end to end and we took the lead again 2-1 (Skye).  However Tilehurst didn’t give in and on balance deserved the 2-2 Final score.  We then went to penalties where the Rubys scored all of their’s including the most chilled penalty from Isobel.

Michelle saved 1 of Tilehurst penalties and they hit the bar on the other, which meant with Skye converting hers, the Rubys were through to the semi final.

TOPAZ (U10) SPONSORED BY MK LOFTBOARDING AND CC LANDSCAPE

Topaz gave it a good go with not being able to play for quite a long time and players out due to Covid but they went on and worked well as a team.

Jorgie got girl of the match and Jamie Lee got parents player. Well done Topaz!

SAPPHIRES (U12) SPONSORED BY BQI PROTECTION

Sapphires played Toddington in the the league plate. They played some fantastic football and ended the game 11-0 winners.

Tilly Allen 4, Maisie Burchmore 2, Grace McCormack, Ava Martuccio, Shania Ismail, Amelie Taft and an own goal.

LADIES SPONSORED BY ENTERPRISE SKIP HIRE

Ladies won 5-2 vs Chinnor. Really good result and has the ladies on a good run going into the second half of the season. Thanks to all the supporters that came along to cheer them on.
