So the leagues have finished but we’re not hanging up our football boots for the year! We’re in the tournament season so expect to hear how our teams get on in the all day tournaments.
DIAMONDS (U15) SPONSORED BY AUTOTECH RECRUITMENT – Berkhamsted Tournament
Diamonds had their first summer tournament on Saturday. We only had one team in this one so nine of our girls were able travel to Berko.
We started with drama as the other team didn’t show, we were awarded the points but just as we were about hand in the score they arrived. We decided to play the game and it was a great one, we conceded early but showed our spirit and scored a fantastic set piece goal.
Second game was a good battle but ended in a 0-0 draw leaving us with two points in two games. Going into the third it was similar again we seemed like the stronger team but couldn’t get the goal until late on with a fantastic bit of skill and very clinical finish made it 1-0.
Final game in the group we finally got into the swing of things. Starting with a long-range goal lobbing the keeper scored by our centre back. Second was from our striker with a very powerful strike. Finally, to make it 3-0 there was lovely build up play leading a tap in at the back post.
8 points was enough to get us second in our group which put us in the semi-final against the top team in the other group. Like the first game we went 1-0 down early this time from lack of concentration from a throw in. It felt like it was over but just before the end we managed to equalise to make it 1-1. Which meant the dreaded penalties. It was best of five all the girls were ready. We managed to win 3-1 with our goalkeeper making 2 fantastic saves.
Onto the final and it was a rematch from our first game. We did our absolute best and it looked like another penalty shootout was looming. But late on we conceded the goal that lost us the game. Regardless of the result the girls had a fantastic day and was very proud of our achievements.
Onto next week at Towcester where we have two teams which means everyone in our squad will be available to enjoy the day.
